Been sick :(

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I’ve been sick for a while now, I can’t seem to shake it off! First it started with my tonsils, then I got a nose so blocked I couldn’t taste anything for two days, now my ear hurts. I’ve mostly stayed in bed and rested, but today I thought I’d go to the market and have my favourite ethiopian meal. The weather was good, then sun was so bright it made you squint. Five minutes later, it was POURING with rain and I got soaking wet. Typical english weather.

Admittedly I’ve been eating very badly lately, sooo many sweets and chocolate and candies and cakes. I miss my mom’s cooking. Or rather, I miss having someone take care of me. One of my best friends from Athens is moving in with me in October, maybe we can split the cooking between us. I also plan to take japanese style bento to uni every day, wake up early and prepare something nice. Rice, omelette, inari sushi and tsukemono (japanese pickles) especially umeboshi. Umeboshi is said to prevent bacteria from growing, that’s why they always put one in every bento. Maybe I should invest in a rice cooker. I will look for a cute bento box and a cookbook when I’m in Tokyo.

Only a couple weeks left now until my trip!

Shiki is getting better and better, though I do find the progression a tad slow, especially considering they have a huge story to fit in just 22 episodes…

コワーーーイ女の子!T_T でもひめカットがすき。

Sunako’s dresses are always very cute.

I love her eyes.

I also watched the Black Rock Shooter OVA, it was so much better than I expected. I thought it was going to be one of those moe-licious anime for otaku to go crazy over and buy figures without having any real substance. It was really quite nice though, I hope they make more OVA or even a series out of this.

Today I’m listening to Mylène Farmer, another of my most loved artists. It’s weird with Mylène because, of course, I don’t understand a word she sings but still her music and videos speak to me in a very direct way. This is what makes her so special to me. I guess when there’s truth and honest feelings in one’s work, one can feel it despite the language barrier.

Amazing cover artwork by Etsuko Miura.

Student loan woes

Monday, August 16th, 2010

I got a letter from the student loans company, asking me to provide “compelling evidence about my withdrawal from my previous course”. I wrote them a letter, but basically, if they decide my reasons were not good enough, I won’t even get a loan for the tuition fees, let alone to live on. It’s all very stressful. If they really turn me down I’ll have to sell everything, everything, to at least make the £3200 for the fees. And then during the year, I have no idea how I’ll be able to keep up with the study required while working to pay the bills. Ugh, give me a break already.

Anime summer season

Monday, August 16th, 2010

I am not watching much anime this season because I didn’t find much all that interesting. Kuroshitsuji II has gone really overboard with the fanservice, the only reason I kept watching was to see something horrible happen to Alois so if he croaks after the latest episode, I’m done with it.

Shiki however seems pretty interesting so far, apart from the ridiculous hairstyles. They’ll be quite a challenge to cosplay, that’s for sure haha. Apparently Gackt is one of the voice actors.

I’m also downloading Occult academy to give it a try.

This is a calendar page from the day I was born that my grandma kept. We found it in her house when she died.

She wrote “I was born 8-8-1984, day Wednesday, time 11am, L. Zafiropoulos” with so many spelling mistakes. :) The little poem says something along the lines of “It seems easier to empty the sea, to throw it ashore, than to forget you”. :3

Natsuko and Licca sent me their wishes hahahaa

September Tokyo trip

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Plane tickets: check
Hotel deposit: check

I was sooo lucky with the tickets, amongst all the £800 deals I found one for £577 with Alitalia! The only “catch” is that I end up staying more than I planned, two whole weeks. But how could that ever be a bad thing? The day after my return I have to enroll at uni. Well that was close!

I’ll be staying at the little Koenji guesthouse again, I think they gave me the same room as last time, up on the roof, where I can watch the trains go by.

Now I just have to prepare for Doll show. I will display my U-noa dolls from my Dollybird “Alice and the Twin Mad Hatters” spread and sell some outfits for Blythe. I also need to start preparing for Blythecon UK in October, but there’s a little more time for that.

My U-noa Light Azurite

I love him, he’s so cute! He has a faceup and body blushing by Gentaro Araki. I’m amazed at all the details for such a small scale, never seen a 1/6 doll so beautifully detailed. Araki’s sculpting ability is amazing!

I love his feet :3

And little geta sandals

Noeru loves him too
