Lenci dolls were first made in the 20s in Italy. They're a whole world of their own with books upon books written about them. My personal favourites are the little boy and girl dolls of the 30s like the one on the right. Their pouty expressions and incredibly cute clothes are just precious and very representative of the children of the time.

They fetch incredibly high prices on ebay whenever they do show up, condition being very important as the felt-like material they are made of is nearly impossible to clean if it soils.

Beautiful Lencis can be seen in various museums around the world such as the Yokohama doll museum in Yokohama, Japan or the Museum of Childhood in London, UK.
